Some recent good news was announced with Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care.

Visitors are now allowed back into the facility to see the residents. Since last year, Long Term Care had to discontinue visitations with the residents because of the pandemic. Long Term Director Lori Harrah says now that Greene County’s positivity rate has dropped to a low level, visitors can now call to schedule an appointment to see their loved one in person. She is excited to be able to offer in-person visits once again.

“Our staff has been diligent and dedicated throughout the pandemic (and) keeping our residents safe and healthy, along with staying healthy themselves. The big thing to keep in mind is one positive case (of COVID-19) within our staff members or our resident population, that will result in us having to suspend visits again. But we hope that doesn’t happen.”

Harrah points out the extreme sacrifice everyone has had to make when the decision to suspend in-person visits was made over one year ago. She appreciates the continued support during these uncertain times.

“It just makes me incredibly proud to work here. The families have been awesome and they’re very supportive as far as understanding why we had to do what we did to keep our residents safe. We were one of the few facilities to be able to say we have had no COVID-19 within our resident population.”

Visitors need to be aware that they will be screened when they arrive, there will be a limited number of visitors and visits per week, masks are required and social distancing protocols must be followed.  Officials point out that these new guidelines and restrictions can change at any time.
