The Iowa Department of Public Health recently announced that COVID-19 vaccine providers can begin to vaccinate those 64 and younger with medical conditions that are or may be at increased risk of the virus.

However, due to the limited supply of vaccines being delivered to Greene County Public Health of 100 doses per week, only one provider will be administering the vaccine to the new sub-group of individuals. Public Health Director Becky Wolf says starting Monday, Jefferson Hy-Vee Pharmacy is vaccinating those 65 and older, as well as 64 and younger with medical conditions such as cancer, chronic kidney and lung disease, down syndrome, heart conditions, a weakened immune system, obesity, pregnancy, sickle cell disease, smokers and Type II diabetes. Hy-Vee Pharmacy will also vaccinate healthcare providers, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade school staff, day care staff and first responders. Greene County Public Health is vaccinating those in Phase 1A and Phase 1B Tier 1 and 2, which now includes individuals with disabilities that are homebound and their caregivers. 

Jefferson Medicap Pharmacy and McFarland Clinic can vaccinate those 65 and older. McFarland Clinic will be contacting patients from oldest to youngest of those 65 and older. Finally, Greene County Family Medicine Clinic are also vaccinating those 65 and older from oldest to youngest and will contact those patients.

Wolf notes that about 46-percent of Greene County residents that are 65 and older have received the first dose of the vaccine, while only 15-percent have received both doses. She adds, there are currently over 1,200 people on all of the provider’s lists.
