With warmer temperatures coming back and the official start to the spring season on the horizon, that means severe weather season is around the corner.

The National Weather Service is hosting public webinars this year for its storm spotter training, which is due to the pandemic and limiting in-person contact. The training sessions give participants information regarding what to look for with a severe storm, as well as how to report what you are seeing to the National Weather Service.

There are five virtual sessions and anyone can participate in just one for free. The sessions coming up this month include Thursday, March 11th at 7pm; Saturday, March 13th at 1pm; Wednesday, March 24th at 1pm; and Wednesday, March 31st at 7pm. The final free session will be Tuesday, April 6th at 7pm. For those individuals that want a deeper look into storm spotting, an advanced course will be held on Monday, April 19th.

Registration is required ahead of each session and you can click the link below to signup. During severe weather season, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team provides live coverage whenever there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning issued for Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties. Live coverage of these events continues until the warning moves out of the three-county area or if the severity drops to below those warnings.
