Two Minnesota residents were recently sentenced after a September drug incident in Adair County.

According to court documents, 23-year-old Austin Anthony Devaney and 22-year-old Danielle Schultz each pled guilty to a controlled substance violation, a Class D Felony, and they were each sentenced to one-year of probation and a fine of $430.

The charges stemmed from an early-morning collision on September 8, 2020 when an Adair County Sheriff’s Deputy smelled marijuana while loading their suitcases into his vehicle to give them a ride while their car was being towed. The deputy asked the pair if they had marijuana in their possession and Devaney admitted to it, saying they purchased the drugs in Colorado. The weight of edibles and plant material was roughly 52 ounces.

In exchange for the guilty plea, the charge of failure to affix drug stamp, also a Class D Felony, was dismissed.
