A new month means the official start of the track & field season at Greene County High School. After COVID-19 cancelled the 2020 season for track & field and all Iowa high school sports, coaches, athletes, and fans, are looking forward to having high school sports back this year. There will be extra sanitizing and other measures due to the pandemic.

Chad Morton returns as the boys’ head coach and Derek Merk is back heading the girls’ program. The number of State qualifiers returning for the Rams is light after not having a State Meet in 2020. Seniors Brianna Osterson, Makala Kafer, and Brooklyn Olson, have the most returning State experience. Osterson was a Class 2A State place winner in 2018 in the long jump and qualified in that event in 2019. She and Kafer also ran on three relays at State two years ago; the 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and sprint medley. Olson placed 11th in the 2019 discus throw.

The boys return relay alternates in senior Jaxon Warnke and junior Nate Black from the 2019 team.
