As spring approaches, severe weather events are just around the corner, and the best defense is to be informed.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says there are several ways to sign up for alerts to keep you and your family safe this spring and summer.

“Both of our counties participate in the AlertIowa System which is free through the state. You can sign up for that on either one of the county web pages by going to the Emergency Management tab. You can go on our Facebook page and click on the signup button. Or, you can just call the office if you don’t have the ability to do that online. Call the office and we’ll be glad to get that information and get you signed up.”

Kempf says taking a few minutes to be personally prepared at home, school or work can go a long way to ensuring safety during an emergency event.

Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team also keeps you informed with live coverage anytime there is a severe thunderstorm and a tornado warning issued in Guthrie, Greene or Dallas counties. Live coverage continues until either the warnings leave those counties or drops below severe levels.
