University of Northern Iowa freshman Carter Morton, a 2020 Greene County High School graduate from Jefferson, is in seventh place among 13 heptathletes after the first of two days of competition at the Missouri Valley Conference indoor track & field meet. The 10-team event wraps up today inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Morton has 2,691 points after Saturday’s 60 meter dash, long jump, shot put, and high jump. Action begins at 10 a.m. today with the 60 meter hurdles, followed by the pole vault, and 1,000 meter run. Athletes accumulate points in each of the seven events and the high point total at the end is the winner. Morton was a standout in the high jump and hurdles while competing in high school for the Rams.

Going into today’s final day of events, the Panthers have a five point lead in the men’s team race, 73-68, over Illinois State.
