After more than two years since the Scranton Post Office closed, the U.S. Postal Service is working on finding an alternate location.

Scranton Mayor Cole Gustoff says he received information in the mail from USPS asking for input from residents to relocate the permanently closed location of the city’s post office at 1030 Main Street. The post office was forced to close in October of 2018 when it was discovered during a USPS inspection of the building that there was water intrusion, which officials believed would be a safety concern for employees and the public.

Since then, most of the mailing operations have been going through the Jefferson Post Office. USPS is asking Scranton residents about a proposal to move the post office to a space that is about 800-square feet and within three miles of the former location. Due to COVID-19, USPS is not holding a public meeting but instead is asking for comments to be sent by the end of February. Comments can be mailed to the address below.
