Iowa House Representative for District 62 Ras Smith visited Perry Friday to advocate for the Iowa Workers Bill of Rights and Occupational Safety and Health Administration Standards.

The event was held at the Community Building as Smith who will be introducing the bill to legislators next week along with fellow representative Timi Brown-Powers.

During his press conference Smith discussed some of the key points in protecting workers and referenced the Tyson plant in Waterloo that had supervisors who were making bets on who would contract COVID-19. Smith says actions like that should be held accountable. 

Other points that Smith referenced in the bill include physical safety, premium pay, protection from cuts to compensation or terms of employment, paid sick leave including family and medical leave, protection for whistleblowers and holding corporations accountable.
