Iowa State Representative for District 62 Ras Smith will be making his way to Perry today to discuss Iowa Workers Bill of Rights and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
Starting at 10 a.m. today at Wiese Park, Smith will be hosting a discussion on the Iowa Works Bill of Rights and OSHA Standards bill that is going to be released next week in the Iowa legislature. Smith will speak with community members and advocates about the needs and concerns of Iowa workers.
Smith says the bill is in response to the illness, suffering and death that affects Iowa meatpacking plant workers but also to protect all workers including the private and public sectors and independent contractors and sub-contractors, to ensure that they receive proper health and safety protections, paid sick, family and medical leave and protections from employer harassment.
The event is free and open to the public.
