A lack of practice time was a common theme for many sports in the winter season for 2020.

For West Central Valley wrestling, not only was it a lack of practice time, but also lower numbers that contributed heavily to a rough win/loss record in dual meets. However, head coach Ben Strandberg says that’s not a good way to judge the character of this team.

“In 1A and even in 2A, if you can fill a lineup, that’ll be a big part of your success dual wise. I don’t think our dual record reflects the quality of this team and where they’re going. For the most part, a lot of losses that we did take in duals were usually by a handful of points and we gave up quite a few points in forfeits. Those guys would go out there and fight hard, and we’d preach that to them to let the dual take care of itself. Individually, they consistently got better throughout the year, and we started seeing our guys beating guys who had beaten them earlier in the season.”

With only one graduating senior in Bodhi Mains, the Wildcats will return a lot of experience to the mat in 2021.
