Greene County Public Health is continuing to educate the public about how to get a COVID-19 vaccine.
Public Health Director Becky Wolf says those that have qualified to receive a vaccine and opted out initially can still get the shot, but will need to contact them to make an appointment. However, she points out it might be a while until you can receive the vaccine.
“We’re doing almost the near impossible job here. We get maybe 100 doses of prime (the first shot) and then the 100 dose match of the boost doses a week. So essentially, we have 100 doses available for the week. Besides going through the tiers we also simultaneously need to vaccinate the people that are 65 and older that are on our waiting list.”
Wolf says people can sign up with different vaccine providers, including Jefferson Hy-Vee and Medicap Pharmacy, but pay attention to when you are notified to receive the vaccine.
“Being on several places of lists doesn’t necessarily increase your odds that you are going to get your vaccine any sooner. It just depends on the availability of vaccine and where you’re at on the waiting list.”
Wolf recommends that once you have received the first vaccine dose and are on other waiting lists, to call that provider to be taken off of their list.
