According to the National Weather Service, the City of Jefferson received nearly 6.5 inches of snowfall on Sunday, which means a service for fire departments may need to be cleared of snow.

Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams reminds property owners with fire hydrants to clear snow around them.

“Just make sure that they are cleared at least three feet all the way around the entire fire hydrant, so that we don’t have to struggle to get hoses hooked up. And that we have at least 8-10 inches below the hook-ups (cleared of snow).”

Williams notes while it isn’t a requirement for property owners to clear fire hydrants, most of them have been compliant this winter season.
