The Raccoon Valley Radio listening area had two student-athletes leave Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines with state championship honors.
Greene County High School sophomore McKinley Robbins defeated Blaine Frazier of Notre Dame/West Burlington/Danville by decision 7-5 in the 2A 120-pound state championship match to seal a perfect 34-0 season. He is the fourth state champion in the school’s 55-year history, the first since Wil Thomsen in 1994 and the first since the school became Greene County High School nine years ago.
Waukee High School freshman Carter Freeman claimed victory in the 3A 106-pound championship over Cedar Rapids Paririe’s Blake Gioimo by major decision 12-4. Freeman finishes the season an impressive 28-0.
