
Dallas Center – Grimes had three grapplers compete during their first day of the state wrestling tournament in Des Moines, and they were able to get some good efforts out of their crew.
At 126, Jacob Fislter was able to move to the next round after picking up a fall in the 2nd frame at 3:23 against Marion’s Wes Logan. Fistler already held a commanding lead beofre the fall, but was able to put on a clinic during the match. His next opponent will be a tough one against Thurman Christensen of Waukee.
At 106, Luke Stover took on Kael Kurtz of Iowa City High School, and was unable to get the win, losing via fall in the first round round at a 1:22. He took on Jasmine Luedtke out of Ottumwa in the consolation bracket, and was able to get the victory in a fall at 2:28 so he will have another opportunity for another match tomorrow.
AT 195, Clausen took on a great wrestler in the first round against Tanner Spysksma of Waukee, and both had an exciting match as they went to overtime tied 1-1 before Spysksma was able to get two points in the extra frames to take the victory. He took on Jay Cooley of West Des Moines Valley in the next round and fell by a 5-0 decision to end his senior season at 28-20.
