The Perry City Council set a public hearing date in relation to the sale of abandoned, unused and outdated equipment at their regular meeting Tuesday.
Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says every few years the City has a sort of garage sale with the bicycles and unused property that has been accumulated by the Perry Police Department.
“We’ll also publish a list of all of the property so that if somebody sees a piece of unclaimed property that is in possession of the Perry Police Department they still have a little bit of time to go and claim that but there will be a cutoff date and then we will have a public sale.”
Peterson says the event is usually pretty well attended and it is a good way for the community to get equipment such as bicycles for a good price while it also helps out the City with generating additional revenue.
“The proceeds from that sale just go back into our general fund. It’s not an exorbitant amount of money but it depends on how much we have to sell at the sale.”
The public hearing has been scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 1st.
