With the 89th Iowa General Assembly moving along, lawmakers are doing what they can to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
House Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says in the Iowa House there are precautions in place to help prevent the potential spread of COVID-19. Between adding more technology and wearing masks Nordman says both sides of the political aisle are participating.
“We have completely moved around the way we do committees and subcommittees. We’ve integrated more technology so people don’t feel like they have to crowd into a room to watch a committee meeting, they can watch it from home.”
While Nordman says lawmakers are doing everything they can to follow the Iowa Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, there is still the possibility or COVID-19 cases, with some reported cases and exposure already occurring this session.
“Are there going to be some cases here and there, yeah, we’re in a pandemic of course there will be but we have been dealing with this now for a full year and we know how we can mitigate and we know how we can do and interact in-person in a safe and effective manner and that’s what we are doing at the Capitol.”
Nordman is serving his first year in the Iowa House.
