Paton-Churdan was a 62-41 high school girls’ Class 1A Region 2 basketball quarterfinal winner in Churdan on Tuesday night vs. Martensdale’St. Mary’s. Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rockets are 16-5, their most wins in more than a decade, and they’ll move on the regional semifinals on Friday, Feb. 19 in Anita vs. CAM, who downed Southeast Warren on Tuesday night. MSM finished the season at 9-14.
Senior Danielle Hoyle, a 6′ 3″ post, had 32 points and was by far the leading scorer in the game. Hoyle had 13 points in the first quarter and 15 at halftime. She also unofficially blocked eight shots and hauled in 10 rebounds. Chloe Berns scored nine points and there were eight points off the bench from Hannah Behrens. The Rockets shot 54% from the field and had 19 turnovers. The Rockets led 9-0 at the start and by as many as 32 points in the second half.
The Blue Devils completed their season at 9-14 and were led by non-starter Carolyn Amdohr with 17 points. It’s a very young M-SM team with seven of its 14 players being freshmen. The Blue Devils shots 39% and had 20 turnovers.
