Friday, February 12th

5:06am: An officer investigated a Vehicle Accident at Vine and Clark Streets. A 2017 Ford Escape, owned by Angeliz Rosado-Cardona and operated by Jan Carlos Rosado-Vargus both of Jefferson, was westbound on West Clark Street. A 2012 Chevrolet Impala, owned and operated by Blane Robinson of Jefferson, was northbound on Vine Street. The vehicles collided in the intersection, causing $1000.00 in damages to each vehicle. Robinson was cited for, Fail to Yield to Vehicle on Right.”

7:57am: Chris Durlam reported being contacted by his Fraud Company of a $991.00 charge against his credit. The company is assisting Durlam with the issue.

10:29am: Officers were called to the middle school for a disrespectful student.

12:08pm: An officer investigated a Rear End Accident in the 500 Block of West Lincoln Way Street. A 2010 Chevrolet Impala, owned and operated by Sandra Ford of Jefferson, stopped to yield to on-coming traffic before navigating a turn off of Lincoln Way. As Ford waited to turn, she was struck from the rear. The 1998 Toyota Camry, was owned and operated by Joshua Koopmann of Jefferson. The Ford vehicle had a reported $1500.00 in rear end damages, while Koopmann’s vehicle had a reported $400.00 in damages. Koopmann was cited for, “Fail to Stop in Assured Clear Distance Ahead.”

3:49pm: An officer assisted the GC Ambulance with a Medical Call in the 400 Block of Rushview Drive.

4:35pm: Officers investigated a three-car accident at the uncontrolled intersection at Washington and Maple Streets. A 2015 GMC Terrain, owned and operated by Jacque Smith of Jefferson, was eastbound on Washington Street. Smith did not yield to a 2019 Lexus NX300, owned and operated by Diane Bergemann of Jefferson, who was northbound on Maple Street. The vehicles collided in the intersection, pushing the Bergemann vehicle into the path of a westbound vehicle on Washington Street. The Bergemann vehicle collided with the 2015 Kia Optima, owned and operated by Alexander Miller of West Des Moines. The Smith vehicle suffered a reported $5000.00 in damages. The Bergemann vehicle had a reported $3000.00 in damages. The Miller vehicle had a reported $3000.00 in damages. Smith was cited for, “Fail to Yield to Vehicle on Right.”

5:50pm: Deb Steadman reported her juvenile grandson had not come home after school. His phone was off, and she could not reach him. The officers began tracking the juvenile’s steps after school and learned he had been given a ride to Des Moines by a friend. DSM PD was notified of the Missing Juvenile and began in the search at their end. Steadman called back later and advised the juvenile was located in DSM with his biological father. He was brought to DSM PD and eventually returned to Jefferson.

10:10pm: Officers responded to an Alarm Activation at the ATM located at 200 West State Street. The machine was secure.

10:45pm: The Wild Rose casino requested an officer at 777 Wild Rose Lane for a suspected fake ID Card. The officer was assisted by an ISP Trooper in interviewing the subject. After not being able to find anything on the ID, the subject was asked to leave the casino, which he did.

Saturday, February 13th

5:57am: Dave Morlan reported a vehicle parked in the 100 Block of North Vine Street was interfering with city crews moving snow in the area. The officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle, who was removing snow from Home State Bank property. The vehicle was moved.

10:40am: An officer investigated an accident at the intersection of Maple and Washington Streets. A 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, owned by John Hemphill of KS. and operated by Stacy Schiltz of Jefferson, was eastbound on Washington Street. Schiltz did not yield to a northbound vehicle on Maple Street, causing a collision in the intersection. The 2016 Chevrolet Suburban was owned by Kay Skalla and operated by Aaron Skalla both of Jefferson. The Hemphill vehicle suffered a reported $5000.00 in damages, while the Skalla vehicle had a reported $2000.00 in damage. Schiltz was cited for, “Fail to Yield to Vehicle on Right.”

4:53pm: Sean Martin requested an officer at 107 North Cedar Street for a subject taking photos of his residence. The officer arrived and learned the subject had been hired by a bank to photograph the property. The subject stayed in the street while taking the photos. He left after getting the photos.

7:06pm: The Wild Rose Casino requested an officer at 777 Wild Rose Lane for a female locked in a vehicle. It was reported the vehicle did not belong to the female. The officer arrived and assisted the female out of the vehicle. It was determined her vehicle was similar to the vehicle she had entered and attempted to start. Nothing criminal had occurred.

7:28pm: An officer performed a Traffic Stop at 220 th and Elm Street with a vehicle without registration plates. The driver could not produce a registration, or Bill of Sale for the vehicle. The officer determined the VIN # on the dash had been tampered with and located an old registration from a previous owner. The vehicle had been reported Stolen out of Polk County. Jessica Hallinan was issued a citation for, “Fasil to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.” The vehicle was impounded, and DSM PD was advised the stolen vehicle had been recovered. The officer is investigating the event.

9:47pm: Becky Miller reported a female parked at 106 West Washington Street, with her head slumped on the steering wheel. The officer spoke to the female, who was waiting while her boyfriend was inside shopping.

Sunday, February 14th

1:40am: Officers were called to 703 West State Street for a reported Domestic Argument occurring there. The officer arrived and spoke to the couple. Both advised of a verbal argument between them. The officer did not witness anything that would make him believe it had become physical and mediated the issue with the couple.

1:15pm: A caller requested a Welfare Check on a dog outside at 203 East Adams Street. The officer determined the animal had access to food, water, and shelter and was in good health.

2:34pm: An officer assisted a semi driver with Mechanical Issues on 220 th , near Grimmell Road.

3:31pm: As the officer was assisting on the previous entry, an eastbound vehicle lost control on the slick roadway and entered the south ditch. The 2016 Ford Edge was owned and operated by Ronda Young of Glidden. The vehicle had to be removed from the ditch by a local towing company, but was not damaged.

8:06pm: A Traffic Stop at 220th and Elm Streets resulted in Ronald Fisher of Des Moines being cited for, “Fail to Obey Stop Sign.”

8:19pm: A Traffic Stop at 220th and Elm Streets resulted in Carlos Ramirez of NE. being cited for, “Excessive Speed.”

10:34pm: A Traffic Stop at Elm and Lincoln Way Streets resulted in Spencer Semke of Carroll being cited for, “Fail to Maintain Registration Plate.”

Monday, February 15th

1:40pm: Ben Ellingson spoke with an officer concerning a Civil Issue between parties and tax returns.

2:58pm: Jeff Niles reported a Suspicious Van driving slowly through neighborhood streets near West and Harrison Streets. The officer located the van at a residence near Walnut and South Streets and learned the subject was a carpet installer looking for the address he was to work at.

3:39pm: Ashley McGrauth spoke with an officer concerning a Civil Property Issue occurring at 709 Pinet Place.

5:59pm: Ashley Estell reporting catching a Stray Dog in the 400 Block of North Cedar Street. The officer placed the animal in the Animal Holding Facility.

10:01pm: A Traffic Stop at 220th and Doreen Wilbur Drive resulted in Catie Smith of Paton being cited for, “Operation without Registration.”

10:51pm: Jolene Anderson spoke to an officer on behalf of her 18-year- old daughter. It was reported an ex-boyfriend had threatened to disseminate photos of the daughter on Social Media. The officer is investigating.

Tuesday, February 16th

12:11am: An officer responded to an Alarm Activation at 300 American Drive. The officer found the facility to be secure.

8:40am: George Crouch reported receiving the Social Security Scam Phone Call. No information was given to the scammers by Crouch.

8:55am: An officer assisted a parent in the 400 Block of South Chestnut Street, whose child was locked in a bedroom. The doorknob had broken, and the child could not open the door. The officer was able to gain entry to the bedroom, without causing damage to the door.

9:26am: An officer responded to a Residential Alarm Activation in the 300 Block of West Reed Street. The alarm had been tripped by accident and all was fine at the residence.

10:38am: Robert Sullivan reported he had received the Texas Law Enforcement Scam Phone Call. The caller advised Sullivan he had outstanding Arrest Warrants in Texas and attempted to gain personal information from him. Some information was given before Sullivan realized it was a scam. The officer advised Sullivan to notify his bank and watch his financial documents closely for unauthorized activity.

12:10pm: Oly’s Corner requested an officer at 208 West Lincoln Way Street for a female attempting to pass a Counterfeit $100.00 Bill. The officer spoke to the female and began an investigation. The business did not incur a loss.

2:29pm: An officer investigated a Vehicle Accident at Lincoln Way and Elm Streets. A 2016 Dodge Charger, owned and operated by Wilfredo Alvarez of Alta, was northbound on Elm Street and failed to stop at the posted stop sign at Lincoln Way Street. The Alvarez vehicle collided in the intersection with an eastbound vehicle who had just left the posted stop sign. The 2009 Toyota Camry was owned and operated by Patricia Ott of Jefferson. The Alvarez vehicle had a reported $4000.00 in damages, while the Ott vehicle suffered a reported $5000.00 in damage. Alvarez was cited for, “Fail to Obey Stop Sign.”

6:52pm: A Traffic Stop at Grimmell Road and 220th Street resulted in Dominic Johns of Guthrie Center being cited for, “Excessive Speed.”

7:47pm: A Traffic Stop at 220th and Elm Streets resulted in Benjamin Johnston of Grand Junction being cited with, “Careless Driving.”
