Guthrie County and surrounding area wrestlers will be taking the mat at the state wrestling tournament in Des Moines beginning tomorrow.

In Class 2A, Panorama High School 160-pound senior Wyatt Appleseth has gone all season without suffering a loss and is 81-1 over the past two seasons. He finished third last season at 152-pounds.

In the Class 1A tournament, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center sends a freshman and a pair of seniors, with  106-pounder Tegan Slaybaugh, who is 35-8 in his first season on the mats for the Chargers. Senior Gunnar Larsen is 13-2 this year and a three-time state qualifier at 132-pounds. Chargers’ senior Cale Rowley will wrestle at 152-pounds, and he is 29-8 this season.

Nodaway Valley High School and Winterset High School will also send athletes to the state tournament. Raccoon Valley Radio will carry the coverage on all three stations for all three days of the tournament.
