New Dallas County Emergency Management Coordinator A.J. Seely
Even freezing cold temperatures can’t stop people from being outside but there are things to plan for to remain safe while doing it.
Dallas County Emergency Management Coordinator A.J. Seely says when extreme cold hits it’s best to try and not plan outdoor activities. If someone does make the decision to be outside there are things they can do to protect themselves.
“You can take regular breaks or plan to take regular breaks so that you know that if I set an alarm for hey I’m going to be outside for twenty minutes so I can get this activity done. Set an alarm so that you know when your twenty minutes is up and you can go back inside and heat back up before maybe going back out later and continuing.”
Seely says this would help to prevent any major heat loss while being outside. Also, Seely notes wearing multiple layers of suitable clothing to be outside and telling people what your plans are for being outside so that others know where you are going to be in case there is an emergency.
