When the Class 2A portion of the Iowa high school State tournament starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, the Greene County Rams will have four wrestlers competing. They are District champions McKinley Robbins at 120 lbs., Brady Stauffer 138 lbs., and Sawyer Schiltz at 285. Also qualifying as a second place finisher at the Adel district on Saturday is Gavin Scheuermann at 145 lbs. The Rams place second among 12 teams at Adel, just 1.5 points behind team champion Bondurant-Farrar.

Zach Beekman is head coach of the Rams. He told Raccoon Valley Radio how happy he was with how the Rams are wrestling right now, and in addition, what a big deal it is to still be wrestling in COVID-19 pandemic era. “There’s not a program in the state that hasn’t been affected in some way by this, and that was a big topic on Saturday in Adel at our coaches meeting. We’re all so thankful to be wrestling and our State tournaments are only a few days away with the Duals on Wednesday and the traditional tournament starting Thursday. It’s a testament to so many people, and especially our athletes, for getting to this point.”

All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have extensive play-by-play coverage Feb. 18-19-20 of qualifiers from 10 area schools.
