Paton-Churdan visited Glidden-Ralston in a Class 1A boys’ basketball District Tournament play-in game on Friday night in Glidden. The contest was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleradio.com. G-R won by a score of 52-33 and will now meet top seed Grandview Christian of Des Moines at Saydel High School on Monday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
Both teams entered action on Friday with 3-16 records and they split their two regular season Rolling Valley Activities Conference matchups.
The Rockets were led in scoring by sophomore Shaydon Thurman with 13 points and 10 from junior Joe Carey. Unofficially, P-C turned the ball over 20 times and made only 14 of 58 field goal attempts. P-C went three of 23 from three-point range. The only seniors on the P-C team are Connor Brus, who scored six points, and Forest Thompson, who missed the game due to illness.
G-R went five of 20 from long range and 20 of 49 overall with 16 turnovers. Cale Klocke had 13 points and Karter Kennebeck added 10.
Neither team shot well from the free throw line with the Wildcats at seven of 13 and P-C two of 12. The only made free throws for the Rockets came with five seconds left in the game.
