After several months of delay, the first public concert for the Greene County High School Music Department took place in their auditorium Thursday night.

The featured performances included the jazz band and choir, along with the concert band and choir. The new 700 seat auditorium features Broadway caliber sound and lighting system, as well as a professional rigging system for plays and musicals. High School Principal Brian Phillips describes his overall impression of the new facility.

“I think the most impressive part is just the state-of-the-art things that are in there, from the rigging and the curtains, to the lighting, to the sound system. And quite frankly we’re even thinking about offering a fine arts class just to expose the kids to that technology because it links directly to the working world.”

Phillips is proud to show off the facility to the public and is excited to invite community groups and organizations to use the new space. The auditorium was one of the final pieces to the $35.48 million project to build the new high school and career academy, as well as renovate the former high school into the current middle school.
