The high school decathlon may have looked different this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, but that didn’t stop Perry High School students from a high-level performance.

Seven students competed in the Des Moines Academic Decathlon Regional Competition on January 28th and 29th. Those students earned a combined 40 ribbons, four medals and earned first place overall for the small school division.

Students competed virtually for speech and interview and used the U.S. Academic Decathlon online program for other testing. The students who competed qualified for the State competition on March 5th and 6th.

The State competition will include an essay in addition to the nine regional categories and will feature the top 24 scoring large and small schools in Iowa.
