Those interested in hunting and fishing in Iowa, and who are over 16-years-old, must have a valid license to do so for the year.
Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says those that purchased licenses last year are now invalid and they must purchase a new one. Towers notes there are several options for outdoor licenses.
“If you’re just a fisherman, you can buy just a fishing license, (but) most people probably buy a combination license (of fishing and hunting), and you can also buy a hunting license that’s good for three years. You can’t buy a combination for more than one year at a time. But hunting license, you can buy that for three years at a time. So there’s way more options than there used to be.”
According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, a single fishing or hunting license is $22 and a combination license for fishing and hunting is $55. Towers recommends buying your license from your respective County Recorder’s office.
“The DNR is constantly sending them updates and if there’s changes, they’ve been doing it long enough they know the ins and outs of it. If there’s questions, the Recorder’s office really is the place to go. They’re the most up-to-date on all the rules.”
