The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Thursday.
During open forum, County Engineer Wade Weiss gave an update on the winter weather. He said the Secondary Roads Department helped a jackknifed semi-tractor trailer on Old Highway 30 near Scranton. He thought crews would continue to clear county roads Friday and Saturday, following the winter weather conditions on Thursday.
The Board then approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for January of $24,702. They also approved a letter of support for the Greene County Early Learning Center to apply for a Future Ready Iowa: Child Care Challenge Grant. In the letter, the Supervisors are intending to commit $250,000 of local option sales and services tax to be used toward the construction of the new facility.
Finally, the Board approved to eliminate the Greene County Mental Health Services Coordinator position. Central Iowa Community Services Board member and Greene County Supervisors Vice-Chair Dawn Rudolph said due to the need for the job and the fact that the position oversaw one county, CICS determined the cost of the position would be fulfilled through them and no longer through the county. Chief Financial Officer Patti Triebel Leeds told the Board they would have their Boone County representative be in Jefferson two days per week and will evaluate the next six months of what kind of need there is.
Rudolph also mentioned that the general services portion of the position was offered to the employee and that they can still make the decision whether or not to keep that position.
