While high school speech has looked vastly different this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Speech coach Jacque Seidl and her kids have pushed through.
The State Large Group Speech competition for ADM will take place at 8 a.m. tomorrow and will have three judges who will be at the competition. Seidl says the kids have been preparing for the state since districts wrapped up.
“The first practice that we have back after districts we look at our ballots that go over the judges comments and all of them, that’s the first thing they say to me is what can we do to improve, how can we make this better.”
For the participating students, they are thankful for the opportunity to still do speech. For senior Lauren Logue it’s one of the only opportunities she gets to interact with her fellow classmates.
“I think that it’s really nice that we can do speech by being distanced and by keeping our masks on and it’s nice too because I’m a complete online learner, which most kids aren’t and get to come to school, but this is one of the only times I get to come in and interact with everybody so I have a really great time.”
The state competition will be at ADM High School tomorrow and is not open to the public but parents are welcome to attend.
