The Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Speech team will host its state large-group competition at the AC/GC High School auditorium Saturday.
Head Speech coach Kelsey Moran says performing in their own space can be a double-edged sword.
“There’s definitely something for home-field advantage, but with that also comes the danger of growing complacent knowing that it is your own turf. I think kids can either relax a little too much, or they step up to the plate knowing this is home base for them that they also come out and do really well.”
AC/GC also hosted the district competition, but this time around, everyone will perform in the auditorium.
The order of acts will be: Reader’s Theatre, Mime, Improvisation, Choral Reading, One-Act Play, Radio and Musical Theatre.
The Reader’s Theatre group will open the contest with “Fire Exit,” the story of two expert high school pranksters and the risks of getting out of class.
The Mime teams will follow up by performing “Love You Mom, Be Home By Midnight” and “Love Is Blind.”
Next, Improvisation team Mahaffey will use their quick wits to put together an entertaining unscripted performance.
The Choral Reading group will sync up for “A Trip to the Dentist.”
After a short break, the One-Act Play group will perform “The Yellow Boat.”
The Radio Broadcast groups will take you to different ends of the spectrum with KAUR and KUFO.
The event will end with the Musical Theatre’s group “Merrily We Roll Along.”
