After a season that started late due to COVID-19 concerns, was halted in January due to that virus, and had more than one weather cancellation, Greene County head wrestling coach Zach Beekman is just two days away from getting his team to the postseason. The Rams wrestle on Saturday in Class 2A Sectional 2 in Woodward starting at 12 p.m. Woodward-Granger hosts Greene County, ADM, Perry, Van Meter/Earlham, and Gilbert.
Coach Beekman told Raccoon Valley Radio, “We’re actually very excited. We’re glad to have the opportunity coming into the season like we did and having some ups and downs, having to pause there in the middle and really not getting a nice stretch of competition or practice in. We’re just really thankful to be where we’re at and be able to look at Sectionals on Saturday.”
The first and second place finishers in each of Saturday’s 14 weight classes advance to the Feb. 13 District Tournament in Adel. The top two teams at Woodward move on to a Feb. 9 dual meet Regional.
