With COVID-19 vaccines continuing to make their way across Iowa, it’s important to understand the vaccination card you receive when you get your first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Dallas County Health Department Public Information Officer Ann Cochran says the card is designed to keep track of the specifics of the vaccine you received. She points out that you must show the card at your follow up appointment.

“The card has the exact information about the manufacturer and the lot number of your first vaccine. It’s very important that there be a match between the type of vaccine you got the first time and you need to have that same one for the booster shot.”

Cochran says the card isn’t meant to be any sort of a tracking tool and there is a limited number of people that have access to it. Also Cochran notes that they have not received any information at this time that the cards will need to be shown for any reason other than at your follow up appointment.
