Iowa lawmakers and the governor have now made it a requirement for school districts to offer 100-percent in-person learning to families. 

Representative for District 19 Carter Nordman says the bill that was signed into law this past Friday requires schools to offer 100-percent in-person learning for families, but still allows schools to do hybrid or online learning options as well. 

“We talk a lot about following the science and ensuring that we are legislating on science. Well, if we are going to follow the science, as we are, the science says that we need to get our kids back in the classroom because by keeping them out it’s being detrimental to their mental health, to their education.”

Nordman says he believes it’s a bill that will get students back into the classrooms quickly and it should help alleviate the issues such as students failing or being absent and also improving mental health from a lack of social interaction with other kids when not in the classroom.
