Greene County Public Health has gone through its first allocation of the COVID-19 Moderna vaccine.

Public Health Director Becky Wolf tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they went through their initial 200 vaccine first set of doses and now have a total of 500 doses of the vaccine that have been delivered. She notes some of those are the second booster dose and some have been allocated to Greene County Medical Center for its employees.

“Just now this week we’ve been working on boost doses. In the last 5-7 days for people getting their number two dose. So we’re really working on additional vaccine that we’ve been receiving. All of the initial (allocation) is gone.”

Wolf points out they are finishing up the Phase 1A priority group, which includes long-term, nursing and assisted living residents and staff, as well as health care workers. She reports that the medical center had a nice response with 47-percent of employees receiving the first dose of the vaccine. Wolf talks about the reasons why people have chosen to not get the vaccine at this time.

“There’s always going to be people that don’t feel that it’s that big of a deal or whatever the latest theme is on why the vaccine isn’t good for you, and those are non-truths. Some people I think just want to wait and see how the rest of the group does this time around before they approach it too.”

Wolf adds, they are preparing to administer the vaccine to the Phase 1B Tier 1 priority group starting next week. For more information, contact Greene County Public Health at 515-386-0564 or email them at covid@gcmchealth.com.
