A winter storm system is expected to push through the area today, but it shouldn’t be as heavy as the 7-14 inches of snow that Greene, Guthrie and Dallas counties saw earlier this week.

Weatherology Meteorologist Paul Trambley gives more details on the weather event.

“It’s not going to be a hard-hitting precipitation band like the last system we saw where it just kinda swoops in and stays heavy for several hours. It’s kind of on and off here. Light mix precipitation which could complicate the situation for the daytime hours. Looks like it’ll change to maybe all snow as we get to the evening and into tonight, maybe a couple of inches in our area of the state. Higher amounts are more likely as you get to the east.”

Trambley adds that the snow won’t be the issue with this system.

“Ground temperatures may be a bit below freezing. We could have some of that freezing rain and ice accumulation, which would be our bigger concern than the snow accumulation with this system.”

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the listening area from 9 a.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday.
