Paton-Churdan fought off Woodbine in girl’s basketball on Friday night, while the Tigers handily won the boys’ game. That Rolling Valley Activities Conference doubleheader was played in Churdan.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s Rockets improved to 12-4 overall and 10-2 in the conference with a hard fought 52-47 victory. The Tigers fell to 7-9, 5-7. The Rockets trailed 25-20 at halftime and fell behind by double digits in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Rockets rally for a small lead they eventually built to six points at 51-45 with one minute remaining. Danielle Hoyle scored 20 of P-C’s points with 12 from Chloe Berns and 11 for Carmyn Paup. Nicole Hoefer had 13 points for the Tigers.
The Tigers doubled up the Rockets in the boys’ game, 75-37. The win put Woodbine at 11-5 overall and 9-3 in the league while P-C lost its seventh straight game, falling to 3-13, 1-11. The Woodbine lead was five points at 12-7 after one quarter, but a 22-3 second quarter advantage put the visiting team up 34-10 at intermission. Forest Thompson had 11 points and six rebounds to lead the Rockets with Connor Brus and Justin Stream each scoring eight points.
The Paton-Churdan teams play a girl/boy makeup doubleheader on Monday in Glidden vs. Glidden-Ralston.
