Guthrie County Attorney Brenna Bird spoke with the Board of Supervisors Thursday about a new software system her office is implementing.
Bird explained that transitioning to a cloud-based software will improve several aspects of efficiency in the office. After discussion with Bird, County Information Technology Administrator Brian Hoffman and Iowa State Association of Counties’ Project Manager Jessica Trobaugh, the Supervisors committed to upgrading the system without a motion.
Public Health Director Jotham Arber addressed the Supervisors concerning the Environmental Health and Public Health fiscal year 2022 budgets. He requested new camera systems for the Environmental Health Department after they were stolen out of county trucks last year. He is also hopeful to continue a partnership to provide services in Cass and Audubon counties as well. The Supervisors did not act on the proposal.
Sheriff Marty Arganbright then presented his fiscal year 2022 budget. With the projection of the new jail open by the end of this calendar year, Arganbright said his budget was factoring in the increased costs of running the new facility for the last six months. The Supervisors discussed state recommendations for staffing of the new facilities, but declined to take any action on the proposal.
Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Bennett said the recommendation is to have two full-time jailers. He calculated that it would take 4.5 employees to operate with one full-time jailer on-site at all times. Arganbright added that the county was lucky not to have an incident in the old facility because they were running it for many years without being up to code.
Finally, the Supervisors distributed applications filled out for the Human Resources coordinator position. They will discuss candidates to interview at their next regular meeting Tuesday.
