With winter weather dropping more of the white stuff it’s important to remember safety tips as you navigate on the roads.

Perry Police Chief Eric Vaughn says it is important to give yourself more time to get to your destination safely. Also, he reminds motorists to make sure windshields and windows are clean on your vehicle before you leave.

“Realize that you are going to need a little more time to get where you are going. You know you may not be able to drive 55 (mph), 65 (mph) down Highway 141. You may have to drive 40(mph), 45 miles an hour to drive that road safely at that time. So you have to drive according to those conditions.”

Vaughn advises motorists of what to do if you lose control of your vehicle. .

“Keep on that brake pedal and steer to the place you are skidding. That is the biggest thing that people forget.”

In the event you were to go into the ditch Vaughn says it may be awhile before someone can get to you but to call the appropriate law enforcement agency.
