Greene County was scheduled to host a wrestling quadrangular in the new high school in Jefferson tonight, but the meet with PCM (Monroe), South Hamilton (Jewell), and Collins-Maxwell won’t be held due to the overnight snowfall. There was no immediate word on whether a makeup date will be set.
The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference was held in Jefferson last Friday night, and that’s been the only time the Rams wrestled at home all season. Greene County finished second in the conference to newcomer West Marshall (State Center). Greene County crowned four conference individual champions including senior Brady Stauffer, who in the process, won his 100th career varsity match, and it worked out so he did it on the home mat. The senior reflected on the two accomplishments. “I knew I could get the 100th win at home, so I knew I had to do the right things, getting myself in the right position to succeed. The conference title, that’s a big deal to me because freshman year I got second, then sophomore year it got cancelled, and junior year I got second, so this year I had to make it happen.” Which he did by major decision in the championship match.
In Youth wrestling news, the Iowa/AAU State Tournament was held over the weekend and Brent Dennhardt of rural Rippey won the 14U title at 110 lbs. Dennhardt is an eighth grader at Greene County Middle School. He wrestles for Sebolt Wrestling Academy, which relocated to Jefferson last summer.
