The Panora City Council awarded the Lenon Mill Dam Emergency Repair Phase 2 contract in its regular meeting Monday night.
Richards Construction Company, Incorporated was the low bid of just under $120,000. City Administrator Lisa Grossman said the same company did a good job with the original repair in 2016 and are familiar with the site. The contract will be returned to the Council at their next meeting, unless they’d like to start the project earlier, which will require a special session.
The Council declined to act on a water bill reduction request from resident Joe Murphy. Murphy asked for the bill to be dropped from $1,007.50 to $500. He said in 2018, his water usage reduced from 9,500 gallons to 2,200 gallons per month when it was found his water meter was leaking. After another leak, the meter was replaced and usage dropped to between 1,600-1,800 gallons per month.
The Council approved reappointments of Rod Huggins to the Planning and Zoning Board, as well as Ilene Olson, Carla Fitzgerald and Carla Wood to the Board of Adjustment. All of these terms end December 31, 2025. There is still a vacant seat on the Planning and Zoning Board.
Councilmembers approved a limit on part-time Emergency Management Service employees to $23 per hour.
The Council also approved the selling of two pieces of outdated equipment from the Electric Department. Both items were purchased in 1998 and after selling the items, the department is looking to purchase an attachment for their mini-excavator.
Finally, the Council reviewed goals, department reports and the signing of the council handbook, which will be done at the next regular meetings. They then moved to a fiscal-year 2022 budget workshop.
