The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, Rippey resident Nancy Hanaman asked about the Board’s decision to temporarily suspend music playing from the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower. She also asked why the Supervisors had to handle a recent music request, when it’s been traditionally handled by the Bell Tower Community Foundation.
County Attorney Thomas Laehn said the Supervisors were the ones ultimately responsible for making those decisions since it belongs to the County. Supervisor Dawn Rudolph mentioned that if they allowed an outside group to make a request, then they would have to allow all groups to make music requests. Supervisor Pete Bardole said the Bell Tower Community Foundation didn’t take action on the request and asked the Board to do it. The music will continue to be paused until policies are put in place.
The Board then approved hiring Avis Keasey as a full-time driver’s license clerk for the County Treasurer’s Office to start February 1st at a $40,000 annual salary. They also approved a letter of support for the County Conservation Department to apply for a Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant for the bridge project on the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Additionally, the Board approved the substance abuse prevention semi-annual report as presented, annexing seven landowners and classifying nine landowners for drainage district 187, and the county’s budget amendment for the current fiscal year was also approved.
Finally, the Board heard mental health’s 2022 fiscal year budget proposal with a $14.75 per capita tax levy and general assistance budget proposal. The Board took no action following the proposals.
