The Paton-Churdan School District is carrying on a winter tradition, with some slight adjustments.
The 2021 Snowcoming theme celebrates “The Roaring 20’s” and it kicks off with a public event of the coronation ceremony of the king and queen this Sunday at 5pm at the gymnasium in Churdan. Student Council member Autumn Consier says the public is welcome to attend the free event, but they ask attendees to wear masks and stay six feet apart from others.
Then throughout the week is dress-up days for the students and staff. Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is State Day, which you can dress up in an outfit that represents a certain state; Wednesday is Decades Day, Thursday is Class Color Day and Friday is School Spirit Day. Consier says games will take place during the school day for the week, with proper COVID-19 guidelines to be followed. She talks about why they wanted to keep this kind of tradition going this year.
“So our school does Snowcoming because that is our school’s time to shine because we do not have a football team, but we have basketball teams, and our basketball teams are both very good. So we just want to show that we are proud of our actual school’s teams. We didn’t want COVID to stop showing our Rockets how much we are proud of them, and that even though it’s still a hard time we are still there for you and we are still cheer you on.”
Consier encourages all students and staff to participate in the dress-up days and for the communities to support the Rockets home varsity basketball games next Friday against Woodbine.
