At a recent Perry City Council work session, a proposal for the purchase of Hotel Pattee was presented.
Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says funding for the purchase of the hotel by the City of Perry, Perry Economic Development and other partners would be secured through private means.
“The initial proposal is for Perry Economic Development to work to raise the funds to match the purchase price of the Hotel Pattee through private donations as well as some funding through the City. So, we are looking at making a grant and doing some loan forgiveness to help bring the overall cost of the initial purchase down to where we are able to do a successful fundraising campaign to privately raise the rest of those dollars.”
Peterson notes the importance of understanding that the funding for the initial purchase of the Hotel Pattee would not create a burden on the taxpayers.
“It’s important to point out that it’s not being proposed to raise taxes at all. The goal of this project would be to not raise taxes at all.”
Peterson notes that no property tax dollars will go toward the purchase or operation of the hotel as other funding such as Local Option Sales and Services Tax, the hotel-motel tax or tax increment financing would be looked at.
