Greene County lost a pair of Heart of Iowa Activities Conference wrestling meets on Tuesday night in State Center to West Marshall and Roland-Story. The Rams forfeited five of the 14 weight classes and lost to WM 43-42, and fell to R-S, 42-36. Coach Zach Beekman’s team is now 8-9 on the season.
McKinley Robbins, the top ranked wrestler at 120 lbs. in Class 2A, had his first close match of the season when he edged Logan Powers (19-3) of R-S, 2-1. Robbins also won by fall vs. WM to improve to 19-0 this season and 56-2 in his career. Other Rams going 2-0 last night were Brenner Gallagher (113), John Sprague (126), Brady Stauffer (138), Nate Black (152), and Noble Hoyt (160). Greene County put up a 13-3 combined record in the 16 contested matches, but weren’t able to overcome the forfeits enough to get in the win column as a team.
The Rams host the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference tournament on Friday starting at 5 p.m. at the new Greene County High School gym. Stauffer is sitting on 98 career wins and could collect wins 99 and 100 in front of the home crowd. The Rams will be wrestling at home for the first time this season, and in the new gym for the first time ever.
