Road conditions are deteriorating in parts of Greene County.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio a semi-tractor trailer was traveling westbound on Highway 30 at 1:40pm when it lost control on the slick roads and jack-knifed across the highway near Highway 25 in Scranton. Williams reports no injuries and the semi-tractor sustained significant damage, while the trailer had some structural damage. The Sheriff’s Office, along with Iowa State Patrol, and Jefferson and Scranton fire departments responded to the scene. Iowa State Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
Williams notes that two other vehicles have also left the roadway in Greene County, due to the slick roads. He says this afternoon, the wind is gusting about 40-50 miles per hour, which is blowing snow across the roadways. Williams points out portions of the road are fine, then it suddenly switches to slush and ice-covered. He reminds motorists to drive to the conditions of the road, don’t use cruise control and don’t slam on brakes.
