The Greene County Development Corporation met earlier this week.
The meeting started with an update on the former Greene County Middle School project with developer Nate Adams. He said schematic design is complete for the 25 apartment conversion project. The project went out for bids and they have selected Lang Construction as the contractor. Benjamin Design and Lotus helped complete the design phase. He talked about the overall price of renovating the three-story building into apartments.
“The project as a whole is somewhere around the $6 million project. So I’ve made very significant progress in identifying several pieces that we helped moved along. One of those is that we’ve identified an investor group that is interested in the historic state and federal tax credits as well as the workforce housing tax credits that we would be applying for.”
Adams said he has to apply for federal and state historic tax credits by October and he can’t get those until the property is transferred to him. He said he continues to have conversations with the Greene County School Board and the City of Jefferson as far as the other parts of the project.
GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton said Rowland Construction is going to build another four-plex rental unit in Jefferson, as well as a four-plex unit in Scranton later this year.
Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community Executive Director Reegan Hanigan said they are partnering with the Greene County School District to provide internships with businesses and Alliant Energy is offering scholarships to high school seniors whose parents are Alliant customers.
