Access to child care is an important issue for lawmakers representing Guthrie County at both the state and federal levels.
Iowa’s Third Congressional District Democratic Representative Cindy Axne says she’ll be fighting for this on Capitol Hill.
“If our parents can’t find safe places for their children to flourish, so that they can work, we’ll continue to see economic decline in Iowa. I consider that to be equally as important as some of these other aspects. Certainly, as a mom of two boys older now, I know how hard it is to just leave your children, let alone not know if they’re going to have a place to even go. They’re very basic issues, but it’s the basic issues we’ve got to get our hands around in this country and start making people whole, and giving them an opportunity again for a better life.”
As previously reported on Raccoon Valley Radio News, Iowa House District 20 Republican Representative Ray Sorensen is also looking at the issue on the state level.
“It’s an issue our caucus is constantly hearing about across our state. Parents are having issues particularly with the high cost and low access to the quality of child care that they need. We need to figure out how to ease that.”
Both representatives are hoping to find a bi-partisan solution to this issue in 2021.
