A blizzard warning has been issued for the Raccoon Valley Radio-listening area.

According to the National Weather Service, a blizzard warning will be in effect for Greene County from 6pm tonight through 6pm Friday and for Dallas and Guthrie counties from midnight to 6pm Friday. Dallas and Guthrie counties could see between 3-5 inches of snowfall, while Greene County could see between 4-6 inches. The blizzard warning also includes strong winds of up to 50-miles-per-hour. The National Weather Service anticipates as much as nine-inches of snowfall through Sunday for west central Iowa.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio to make plans now to keep yourself safe.

“You’re better off to start planning ahead now. Look for a hotel room close to where you work, or a friend’s house to stay at, or just go home early, if you can. Once the blizzard starts, I plead with people to please stay off the roadways. It’s dangerous for us to go out and get people that are in the ditch, it’s dangerous for them because they are stuck in the ditch.”

Travel will be impacted and visibility may be reduced due to blowing snow. Raccoon Valley Radio will have road condition updates and other winter weather related information.
