The Greene County FFA Chapter has had a successful year so far, and they are preparing for a major event later this month.

Senior Autumn Villebro is the co-chair of the fundraising committee and says their year started with the FFA fruit sales, which all FFA’ers achieved their fundraising goals.

“Twenty-nine of our members did reached the sale goals that were required of them. So for new members it was $250 required and then returning members – so sophomores to seniors, it was their second year –  that was $500. The proceeds usually go to the activities we’ll do during the year. If we get to go anywhere, and with COVID that might look differently, if there’s an event that we go to, we’ll use those for that.”

Another annual activity is the FFA National Convention, which senior Ashlyn Frederick says they didn’t attend because it was held only online this year, due to the pandemic. She notes they are currently preparing for the FFA Sub-District competition, which Greene County is hosting this year.

“When I’ve been here, we’ve never done this before. So I think it’s really cool because we’ve always traveled to other schools. I also think it’s really nice since we have this brand new school, we get to show it off to all these other incoming chapters and they’ll get to see it.”

The contest is slated to be held later this month.
