Paton-Churdan hosted non-conference opponent West Bend-Mallard in Churdan on Tuesday night in a girl/boy basketball doubleheader. P-C won the boys game by a 60-56 final in overtime after WB-M won the girls’ game 41-34.
Senior Danielle Hoyle led the Rockets in the girls’ game with 17 points of seven of 12 shooting. The rest of the team went six of 22 from the floor. The Rockets made four of 19 shots from three-point range and sank four of six free throws. P-C turned the ball over 19 times as they fell to 7-2 on the season. The home team led 22-17 at the half, then only scored 12 points in the second half, including just four fourth quarter points while the Wolverines put 13 on the board in the final eight minutes. WB-M improved to 5-2.
In the boys’ game, Coach Bud Fagen’s team improved to 3-6 and out scored the Wolverines 8-4 in overtime after the game was tied 52-52 at the end of regulation. WB-M fell to 1-6. Bradyn Smith had 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals, to lead the Rockets. Connor Brus added 10 points with eight from Justin Stream and seven apiece for Shaydon Thurman and Joe Carey. Coach Fagen said the Rockets were much improved in a lot of areas.
The Rockets are home again on Friday night with CAM (Anita) in another girl/boy doubleheader.
