The Panora Police Department used city-wide cameras and an extra assist from private technology to identify the culprit in a minor hit-and-run accident last week.
Police Chief Matt Reising says Officer Rock Armstrong examined the footage during his weekend off to solve the case.
“This current one that we’re investigating, moreso officer Armstrong than myself. He’s the one that really figured it out. Not only did we utilize our city cameras, but a ring doorbell which really gave us the information that we needed.”
Reising added that the minor damage only required the person to leave a note with contact information.
“If that would have been done, really law enforcement doesn’t even need to be involved. All that can be done between individuals without us even being involved. If this individual would have simply left a note with the information required by law, nothing would have happened. But, now unfortunately, they’re going to have a summons to appear in court.”
Reising estimates this is the fourth hit-and-run in Panora that’s been solved using the city-wide cameras. The suspect works in Panora, but does not live in the city. The court summons will be issued at a later date.
